Al Taif, Saudi Arabia – September 2024 – The second edition of the Female Camel Race at the prestigious Crown Prince Festival Al Taif 2024 concluded with a historic display of talent and sportsmanship. This year’s race saw an extraordinary performance by Reem Al Blooshi (Algergia)  who took first place, securing her position as a rising star in the world of camel racing. In second place was Kholoud Shamri (Saudi Arabia), while Salma Srour (Palestine) claimed the third spot on the podium.

 

The event, which forms a key part of the Crown Prince Camel Festival, showcases the incredible skill of female jockeys in a sport traditionally dominated by men, underlining the growing inclusivity and empowerment of women in the sport.

The festival was further distinguished by the strong presence of the Arabian Desert Camel Riding Center (ADCRC), whose expertly trained team clinched six out of the top ten positions. This year’s podium, featuring Reem Al Blooshi, Kholoud Shamri, and Salma Srour, was composed entirely of jockeys from the newly established Abu Dhabi Training Center, a testament to the success of the UAE’s investment in camel racing training and development.

The Crown Prince Camel Festival is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious camel racing events, drawing competitors and enthusiasts from across the Gulf region and beyond. It serves as a symbol of cultural heritage, while promoting the modern development of the sport. This year’s female camel race highlighted the growing prominence of women in the industry and the international collaboration between nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE in fostering talent and expanding the reach of the sport.

Reem Al Blooshi, who trains with the ADCRC, expressed her pride and gratitude after her victory: “This win is not only for me, but for all the women pushing boundaries in camel racing. The support from Al Wathba Camel Track Team and my trainers has been invaluable, and I am thrilled to represent both the UAE and the wider female racing community.”

 

The second edition of the Female Camel Race reflects the broader vision of regional leadership, including Saudi Arabia’s commitment to embracing new traditions while preserving the rich cultural heritage of camel racing. The next races will be the season opening race of C1 Championship going into the 4th season, scheduled for 19. October 2024 in Al Marmoom Dubai.
