Camel Charisma

Camel Charisma is a social enterprise that aims to develop, promote and market environment friendly products from the camel.
Founded in 2010 by two founders, Mr. Hanwant Singh Rathore & Dr. Ilse Kohler-Rollefson, Camel Charisma has been inspired by the experiences and close connection of Lokhit Pashu Palak Sansthan (LPPS) with Rajasthan’s camel pastoralists. It was set up as an outcome of a project by LPPS to revive Rajasthan’s camel husbandry for creating sustainable rural livelihoods in semi-arid and arid areas, as well as creating job income opportunities for the local communities.
The founders, Hanwant Singh Rathore and Dr. Ilse Köhler-Rollefson have been working for and with the Raika since more than a quarter of a century and decided to set up Camel Charisma when they realised that the traditional source of income no longer provided a viable livelihood option and that they had to go beyond NGO advocacy for effective animal health services, and grazing rights.
Camel Charisma has grown out of a long struggle – a struggle to get recognition for the value of camels, a struggle for Livestock Keepers’ Rights on a global level, and a struggle for camel milk to be recognized as a valuable source of nutrition and a nutraceutical.
